Symptoms Of An Ulcer

Ulcers are formed in the beginning of the small intestine, just below the stomach. Ulcers that ar formed in the stomach and duodenum are named as peptic ulcers. Our stomach consists of a large number of muscles which help in digestion and then mix the food with juices like pepsin and hydrochloric acid. In case of any damage to the stomach, these acids start working on the lining creating imbalance in the digestion and ultimately causing ulcers. Negligence in treatment of ulcers can lead to bleeding ulcers.

The stomach tries to create a mucus coating by circulating the blood to the stomach lining inorder to maintain its functions properly and repair them in case of any necessity. In case if the stomach is unable to defend from digestive fluids or a person uses anti inflammatory drugs there are fair chances of developing  ulcers. Helicobacter pylori is said to the most important bacterium for the cause of ulcer that is found in the stomach. This bacterium produces an enzyme, urease, which helps in generating ammonia. This bacterium weakens the mucous coating of the stomach by thinning it and damaging the effects acids.

Few drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen interrupt the stomach in the process of producing bicarbonate and mucus. They also disrupt the proper flow of blood to the stomach. Several other factors that include to form ulcers are the lifestyles of a person. Smoking, consuming alcohol and intake of caffeine also help in the formation of ulcers. There are various symptoms of an ulcer and few of them that are experienced by a person are as follows:-

A person  experiences vomiting or nausea

A fair chance of losing appetite

He loses weight

Burning sensation in the abdomin with empty stomach or in the midnight

Weakness and tiredness in the body which is said to be a symptom of bleeding ulcer

Blood vomits which are also a sign of bleeding ulcer.

Though the symptoms of an ulcer may create panic in a person but he need not worry as the doctors have various options to dignose the problem and resolve the issue with the best medication in today's advanced field of technology. The doctors have an option of performing endoscopic and x-ray examinations to diagnose ulcers. Ulcers are treated with medications combined with antibiotics. In case of any severe problem the doctors may advise to go for a surgery like vagotomy or pyloroplasty. The person needs to reduce the stress and change his life style by following the doctors advise and instructions given to him in order to fight with symptoms of an ulcer.


A sore which can be three fourth inch in diameter or less which forms in stomach is called as Ulcer. Ulcer occurs at the beginning of the small intestine. The food is crushed in the stomach and it is mixed with the juices inside the stomach. This process is very necessary for digestion and it takes place everyday inside the human body. If the stomach or any part of stomach is damaged then the acid, which process food, goes on the stomach lining and causes pain and because of this, you find it difficult to digest the food. There are defensive as well aggressive factors in your stomach. When there is imbalance in these factors ulcer occurs. If symptoms of ulcer occur then you should immediately treat the patient as it could even lead to bleeding ulcer which is very dangerous.

A muscus coating is created by stomach to protect itself from the hydrochloric acid. If this process is hampered then Ulcer is created in stomach. The primary cause of ulcer is pylori. Pylori is said to be the primary cause as it weakens the defense mechanism of the stomach. These symptoms depend on your lifestyle, your bad habits, sleeping habits like less sleep, bad eating habits. The food you take should be proper and it should be time to time. If the food is not taken properly and the timings are not followed then it can lead to ulcer.

Taking anti-inflammatory pills also affects the defense mechanism of the stomach which causes ulcer. Bad habits associated with ulcer are chain smoking or smoking, lot of alcohol consumption, drinking caffeine, etc. Caffeine can be even more dangerous as it can increase the existing ulcer and give you more pain. If you are a heavy drinker then the healing process of ulcer can get hampered. Sometimes you will not feel any symptom of ulcer in the initial stage. Normal symptoms will be burning pain in the abdomen, and burning sensation in chest and navel. Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting are general symptoms of an ulcers. The bleeding ulcer which is dangerous can also have symptoms like tiredness and weakness. When you notice blood coming from stool or if you vomit blood then it indicates that you have bleeding ulcer. These issues should be handled immediately and treated properly or it could lead to serious problem with the patient. Different options are opted by doctors to treat ulcer.
